Lives in works in Turin.
IN RESIDENCE at
LUGAR A DUDAS,
The practice of Cosimo Veneziano has been always connected to archives, interviews and real sources, reformula-ting the information in sculptures and installations. His aim is to enable the invisible aspects that make up the collectivity to emerge.
“My research stems from the idea of tracing a pathway that proceeds from the meaning of words towards the definition of spaces of rejection and the structuring of an anthology of experiences, which try to emerge from the exclusion imposed by ‘official’ history.
My practice can be described with an image taken from Paul Austen’s short story: ‘Trilogy of New York’. The main character in this story picks up a broken umbrella and wonders how he can name this object that no longer serves its purpose since it’s damaged, and so the original name isn’t appropriate anymore. Therefore my research aims at understanding whether an object that appears mutilated, violated might conceal another practicality. Within the layers of reality I look for new terrains and I focus on those products of history that no longer have a meaning other than that of being recovered to show a perspective through a taxonomy where abandonment and censorship have had a key role in their changes. I pose a question to the spectator on the meaning of actions that produce the disappearance of free initiative, in a pathway where the directions of abandoned histories find their substance again.”
