Alessandro Quaranta
1975, born in Turin (I),
where lives and works.

IN RESIDENCE at
TOWNHOUSE GALLERY
Cairo (Egypt)
February-March 2011

Quaranta has always assigned a great deal of value to attitudes. As frequently happens in his work, he focuses his attention on attitudes that leads the viewer directly to his actions, practices in a precise context. As a frequent practice, he tries even for an instant, that the natural course of things gets
an alteration, and by doing so make possible what is otherwise impossible.
Usually Quaranta needs to bring to
the attention the absences and lacks
in the dimension, real or emotional, under examination. His works –
video installations and photography – frequently originate from collaborations, in which the results, closely connected with the timeframe required to meet, involve and create personal relations.
A way of operating that displaces the artist’s centrality, restoring a lateral viewpoint. For Quaranta “to stand outside” means to adopt the viewpoint of the birdwatcher; to act as an external observer of the reality that one has already investigated and experienced,
so that, by keeping an emotional distance, one may regain a vision of
that experience that is more didactic,
an abstract outline.
